SI/Kagoshima, Japan (Japan Minami Region)
Ainosuke Katoka Charity Talk Dinner Show
SI Kagoshima hosted a fundraising dinner party with a presentation by popular Kabuki actor Ainosuke Kataoka. This occasion to hear him talk and see him dance attracted a large audience for the event. Members sold 400 tickets and raised over $17,000. The money raised was used to fund their Live Your Dream Awards, Dream It, Be It, a donation for Club Giving and buying masks for nurses, mothers and children during the pandemic. They received media coverage in newspapers and TV and recruited two new members.
SI/Benicia, CA (Founder Region)
You’ve Been Flocked
Due to COVID-19, SI/Benicia had to cancel their regular fundraisers and were looking for a socially distanced alternative. They purchased three flocks of plastic flamingos and planted them in the yards of three prominent families in the community. They come with instructions that to have them removed, they need to make a donation to SI/Benicia to support their Dream Programs. They could also “flock a friend” for an additional donation and have the flock moved to another yard. This proved to be so popular, they purchased an additional 30 birds to join the flock. In addition to the instructions, they included a postcard explaining the mission of Soroptimist, information about their club and an invitation to be a guest at an upcoming meeting. Between August 1, 2020 and October 31, 2020, they flocked over 300 homes in their community and raised $11,000. They gained 300 names to add to their donor list, got huge coverage on social media, and received local media attention. They raised money, raised awareness and recruited two new members!
SI/Vista and North County Inland, CA (Desert Coast Region)
$100 for 100 Years
SI/Vista and North County Inland is kicking off our 100th year celebration by asking supporters and companies to each donate $100 – that’s one dollar for every year of Soroptimist existence. Their goal is to raise $10,000 to support their Dream Programs. Like all Soroptimist clubs, the club has had to pivot to online fundraising to reach their goals and they are asking business to buy a square on their Giving Grid.
SI/Daegu, Korea (Korea Region)
Fundraising Bazaar, Lexus and Soroptimist Together
With the help of a local Lexus dealer as a partner, SI/Daegu planned a bazaar and auction to raise funds for their Live Your Dream Awards, Dream It, Be It project and Club Giving donation. During the afternoon event, the dealership bustled with customers, friends and members. They held a live and silent auction and had drawings for free products and gift cards throughout the event. The event netted about $18,000 dollars and anything that was not sold was donated to a second-hand store.
