I've never been... what's a Soroptimist Convention like?
Here's the cool thing about convention, it's not only an opportunity to travel to a beautiful destination... it's also a unique opportunity to gain leadership skills, connect with volunteers from the other side of the globe, meet your Headquarters Staff, vote on organization-wide initiatives, get inspired by motivational speakers, feel your heart melt from hearing our Live Your Dream Awards recipients tell their stories AND learn how the work you're doing on a local level is directly contributing to Soroptimist's global impact.
I don't know many NextGen members in my club or region. How can we connect with others before the convention?
We have created a Facebook Group just for NextGen Soroptimists. Request to join the group and our staff will add you. Use this space to make friends from across the federation, share travel tips, make plans to meet up on-site, and more! Be sure to follow the general SIA 46th Convention Facebook Page as well for important information.
How will I fund my trip?
Some NextGen Members have gotten really creative and used crowdfunding to ask their family and friends to pitch in. Start a personal fundraiser and ask your network to support you by using GoFundMe or Facebook Fundraising. Here's a toolkit to get started:
Does Soroptimist offer any registration relief?
Unfortunately, Headquarters is unable to offer registration cost relief at this time. That said, each club is entitled to send a delegate to Convention (delegates do not pay the individual registration cost) and we encourage you to ask your club to send you as their representative!
Can my employer sponsor my trip?
YES, of course! Soroptimist's Convention is absolutely a professional development experience. You will be networking with global change-makers, gaining new leadership skills, and learning communication techniques to help in conflict resolution, community outreach and digital marketing. Here's a sample letter you can customize and send to your employer:
On top of meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones, I am most looking forward to learning new ways to reinvigorate, reengage, and refocus the mission, that I can bring home to share with members of my club.”
—Marketing Chair Leanne Davis
