PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Whether it’s to earn a college degree, start your own business, or live in a world free from poverty, war and injustice, we all have dreams. On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2008, Soroptimist hopes to inspire women and girls to live theirs. The international volunteer organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls encourages women from all walks of life to visit LiveYourDreamCampaign.org, an inspirational website that celebrates the unique power and accomplishments of women.
LiveYourDreamCampaign.org is the online home of Soroptimist’s Live Your Dream Campaign, which aims to inspire women to live their dreams, and urges them to pass on their good fortune to others. The award-winning site, sponsored in part by PINK Magazine and Janney Montgomery Scott, is a place where women can join together to celebrate women’s myriad successes while raising awareness about the challenges they continue to face.
“Soroptimist’s many programs help women and girls to reclaim and live their dreams because we know that for too many of them, life can be difficult,” said Leigh Wintz, Soroptimist’s executive director. “The Live Your Dream Campaign inspires a sense of possibility and potential in women and girls everywhere. It’s a powerful way we can continue to help each other, motivating with stories of women and girls who can and do move out of situations of poverty, discrimination or domestic abuse. They show us that with faith, hope and hard work, anything is possible.”
LiveYourDreamCampaign.org boasts several interactive features including:
- A “webisode” series featuring Sena Kimbrell, a past Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award recipient. The series follows this amazing woman at work, school and with her family, and shows how the award—which provides cash grants for education or training—has helped change Sena’s life.
- A new blog by a past winner of the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award, given to girls ages 14-17 whose volunteer actions make the world a better place. Jasmeet Sidhu, now 20, provides a fresh perspective and explores the power of youthful perseverance in her blog.
- Inspirational e-cards that visitors can send to all the women in their lives, on International Women’s Day and throughout the year.
- A Live Your Dream contest, which offers $500 and other fun prizes to the winner.
- Words of wisdom by certified life coach and career consultant, Phyllis Mufson.
- A message board where visitors can post and share their dreams with other women.
The campaign also offers a Live Your Dream pin and other items that celebrate the power of women’s dreams. All proceeds benefit Soroptimist’s programs that work to improve the lives of the world’s women and girls.
“I invite everyone to visit LiveYourDreamCampaign.org, which celebrates the power of dreams and honors the achievements of women and girls everywhere,” Wintz added. “You’ll be inspired by stories of determination and courage, learn how you can help other women and girls, and have fun in the process. So check the Live Your Dream site often, not only on March 8, International Women’s Day, throughout the year.”
Soroptimist, a 501 (c)(3) organization, headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa., offers programs that improve social and economic conditions for women and girls.
