PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA), an international volunteer organization of business and professional women, announces the online release of its 2009-2010 annual report. The report can be found on the organization’s website: www.Soroptimist.org.
The report includes detailed financial information, and highlights the impact of its programs that have helped transform the lives of women and girls.
“We are proud to call ourselves a global organization with one mission that continues to help countless women and girls throughout the world to live their many dreams,” said Soroptimist President Sharon Fisher.
In 19 countries and territories, Soroptimist club members work to improve the lives of women and girls. Through their participation in Soroptimist programs, as well as through myriad unique club projects, members address issues that affect women and girls, including: education, employment status, healthcare, disaster recovery, domestic violence, sexual assault and sex trafficking. In 2009-2010, more than $2 million was disbursed through Soroptimist programs, helping nearly 17,000 women and girls live their dreams of a better life.
“When clubs participate in Soroptimist programs, they become part of an international effort to improve the lives of women and girls,” said Fisher. “This report details the impact of those efforts and illustrates the power of women helping women.”
Soroptimist also plans to release a video version of the report in the coming weeks.
Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa., Soroptimist offers programs that improve the lives of women and girls through social and economic empowerment. Its major program, the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards, provides cash grants for women seeking to improve their lives with the help of additional education and training. Each year, about $1.5 million is disbursed to deserving women through this award-winning program. Soroptimist, a 501(c)(3) organization that relies on charitable donations to support its programs, also sponsors the Live Your Dream campaign in recognition of the power of women and their dreams.
