2016-2017 Soroptimist Leadership

RoseMary Reid RoseMary Reid, President
RoseMary Reid of Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, will serve a one-year term as president of Soroptimist's international board of directors. As president, Reid will oversee strategic planning and program development for the organization. She will also lead Soroptimist’s efforts to increase its collective impact in helping women and girls around the world to lead better lives.  

Reid is currently a member of Soroptimist International of York Region, one of 1,300 Soroptimist clubs that improve the lives of women and girls through volunteer projects in the community. A member since 1990, Reid has held several leadership positions including international board director, region governor and club president.

Reid attended Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario, where she studied human resources management and business administration. Reid’s previous municipal manager experience with the Corporation of the City of Peterborough will be an asset in assisting the Soroptimist board with its work. In addition to her Soroptimist activities, Reid is a volunteer in her local community and a strong supporter of the YWCA.

   
Yoko Ichigatani Yoko Ichigatani, President-Elect
Yoko Ichigatani of Oita, Japan, will serve a one-year term as president-elect of Soroptimist's international board of directors. As president-elect, Ichigatani will work with President RoseMary Reid, to oversee Soroptimist’s strategic planning and program development in an effort to increase the organization’s collective impact in helping women and girls around the world lead better lives.

Ichigatani is a member of Soroptimist International of Oita-Midori, one of 1,300 Soroptimist clubs that improve the lives of women and girls through volunteer projects in the community. A member since 1989, Ichigatani has held several leadership positions including international board director; region governor and secretary; and club president, treasurer and secretary. She will become the organization’s president on September 1, 2017.

Ichigatani attended Tsuda College in Tokyo, Japan, where she studied international relations. In addition to her Soroptimist activities, Ichigatani is a member of the Civil Liberties Commission of the Ministry of Justice.   
   
Virginia Penalosa

Virginia "Gigie" Peñalosa, Secretary/Treasurer
Virginia "Gigie" Peñalosa of Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines, will serve a one-year term as secretary/treasurer of Soroptimist's international board of directors. In this role, Peñalosa will prepare minutes for board meetings and conventions, as well as oversee Soroptimist's funds and financial accounts.

Peńalosa is a member of Soroptimist International of Mandaluyong, one of 1,300 Soroptimist International of the Americas clubs that empower women and girls through volunteer projects in local communities. A member since 2008, Peńalosa has held several leadership positions including district director and club president.  

Peńalosa is the chief operating and financial officer at VCP Trading International Corp. She attended Siena College, where she studied banking and finance. In addition to her Soroptimist activities, Peńalosa is a member of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers Ladies Civic Action Group.

   
Liz Lucas Elizabeth M. Lucas, CAE, MBA, CEO and Executive Director
As Soroptimist International of the Americas’s Executive Director & CEO, Lucas oversees the overall direction setting and implementation of our organization’s operations in 20 countries and territories. She is working with volunteers and staff to expand support for our mission, develop resources to ensure our financial security, strengthen our brand, and ensure programming is sustainable and measurable to increase our collective impact.

Previously she spent 15 years with the American Massage Therapy Association and the Massage Therapy Foundation. There, she guided the strategic development of both organizations. Her results ranged from the creation of a global expansion strategy to growing the organization two fold; establishing research conferences and online education; and successfully advocating for state laws regulating the profession.

Her prior association experience in the safety, health and environmental industries is where she first started to shape public policy. As a small business owner, she assisted Fortune 500 companies in their new product introduction and sales training. She began her career in retail merchandising, where she learned to identify trends around the globe and adapt them for local consumption.

Lucas is active in professional and civic organizations, including the American Society of Association Executives, the Association Forum of Chicagoland, Landmark College, and the Guild of St. Mary.
