2015-2016 Soroptimist Leadership

Susan Sam Buchenau Susan "Sam" Collier Buchenau, President
President Susan "Sam" Collier Buchenau lives in El Cajon, California, USA and began her one-year term as president of Soroptimist International of the Americas on September 1, 2015. As president, Buchenau oversees strategic planning and program development, and chairs the Board of Directors for this global organization representing 20 countries and territories.

Sam is a member of Soroptimist International of Valley de Oro. A Soroptimist since 1981, she has held numerous elected and appointed leadership positions, including SIA fundraising council chair, region governor, district director, district secretary, and club president and vice president.

Sam’s career has encompassed a variety of assignments of progressive responsibility in legal and investment adviser firms. Most recently serving as Vice President of Asset Management for an SEC registered investment adviser with nearly $4 billion of assets under management whose clients are limited to trade union related funds, coordinating due diligence investigations and title holding entity formation, as well as supervising the preparation of acquisition and closing documentation, and assisting in quarterly client reporting and client relations.

In addition to Soroptimist, Sam is an active member of the United Church of Christ, both locally and denominationally. She shares her life with husband, Tom, who is an equally devoted and involved volunteer.

   
RoseMary Reid RoseMary Reid, President-Elect
RoseMary Reid of Peterborough, Ontario, began her one-year term as president-elect on September 1, 2015. As president-elect, Reid will assist President Susan "Sam" Collier Buchenau in overseeing the strategic planning and program development for the organization in an effort to help Soroptimist increase the overall collective impact it has on women and girls around the world. Reid is a member of Soroptimist International of Peterborough. A member since 1990, she has held several leadership positions, including federation board director, region governor and club president. She will become the organization's president on September 1, 2016. In addition to her Soroptimist activities, Reid is a strong supporter of the YWCA and Cameron House.
   
Sue Riney Sue Riney, Secretary/Treasurer
Sue Riney of Oak Harbor, Washington, USA, began her one-year term as secretary/treasurer on September 1, 2015. In this role, Riney prepares minutes for board meetings and conventions, as well as oversees Soroptimist's funds and financial accounts. Riney is a member of Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor. A member since 1996, she has held several leadership positions, including federation fundraising council member, region governor and treasurer, district director and secretary; and club president, and vice president. In addition to her Soroptimist activities, Riney is a member of the Whidbey Playhouse and Whidbey Presbyterian Church.
   
Liz Lucas Elizabeth M. Lucas, CAE, MBA, CEO and Executive Director
As Soroptimist International of the Americas’s Executive Director & CEO, Lucas oversees the overall direction setting and implementation of our organization’s operations in 20 countries and territories. She is working with volunteers and staff to expand support for our mission, develop resources to ensure our financial security, strengthen our brand, and ensure programming is sustainable and measurable to increase our collective impact.

Previously she spent 15 years with the American Massage Therapy Association and the Massage Therapy Foundation. There, she guided the strategic development of both organizations. Her results ranged from the creation of a global expansion strategy to growing the organization two fold; establishing research conferences and online education; and successfully advocating for state laws regulating the profession.

Her prior association experience in the safety, health and environmental industries is where she first started to shape public policy. As a small business owner, she assisted Fortune 500 companies in their new product introduction and sales training. She began her career in retail merchandising, where she learned to identify trends around the globe and adapt them for local consumption.

Lucas is active in professional and civic organizations, including the American Society of Association Executives, the Association Forum of Chicagoland, Landmark College, and the Guild of St. Mary.
