  Personal Recognition

Personal giving is exemplified by the Laurel Society. This elite group of women consistently gives generously of their treasure and their talents to help change lives.

Laurel Legacy donors do just that—create a legacy of giving and caring that lasts more than a lifetime.

Soroptimists who give to support disaster grants reach the most vulnerable survivors with their generosity.

Memorial and tribute gifts demonstrate the sisterhood and shared spirit of Soroptimist, by supporting our programs in honor of another.

Linabelle Villarica
Joining the Laurel Society is par for the course in my rise from a cloistered homemaker-businesswoman to public servant. Why? Because Soroptimist opened me up to a world of making a difference in the lives of women and girls. Believe it, live it, invest in it. As a charter-member of SI/Meycauayan in 1991, I surprised myself taking on fulfilling work—despite the warnings of a protective husband—I eventually took on greater responsibilities. To this day, my Soroptimist-core is unmistakable—as Congresswoman for the 4th District of Bulacan—I continue to champion gender-equality and anti-trafficking of women and girls. Soroptimists don’t graduate, we become life-long emissaries—Laurel Society is this nice way of saying, “Yes, I’m definitely still in it!”

Joining the Laurel Society was the best present that I have received from my mother and I value it greatly. Through our contributions to the Laurel Society we work directly towards our mission, supporting our main and distinctive project, the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards, in a direct and complete way. I am absolutely convinced that if we support women though education, we’ll give them a chance for a better life, for themselves and for their children, and one day they will see their dreams come true. I invite all of you to join the Laurel Society.

I joined a Soroptimist club very early, and I am now commemorating 20 years in this organization. I had the opportunity of serving in several club positions, including president and coordinator for Brazil Region in the area of computer data processing and UN. But the most important is that, I am also resuming my work after 30 years of teaching in my country. I know that I did not achieve any position on my own. I had help from my colleagues, including Soroptimists that helped me opening doors to my journey. Many of them already have died, but their lessons stayed with us.

Our organization is comprised of professional women who work in different areas, and the interaction with a diversity of opinions has been very important in my professional life and in forming my leadership skills. My membership in the Laurel Society is an incentive to continue the Soroptimist work. I have no intention of self-promotion but want the promotion of the organization’s collective work. I attached a photo taken with my daughter, because I love the slogan: Women and girls, our priority.

Dolly ONeill-Meija

America del Sur Governor-elect, Dolly O'Neill- Mejia, a member of the Laurel Society from SI/ Ibarra, Ecuador says: "When I gave my financial contribution towards SIA programs, I knew that being a member of the Laurel Society was a priority for me."

Dolly has the joy of giving the women in América del Sur region the opportunity to discover who they are, develop their skills knowing that there is an organization with a goal to help. "What other financial investment supports women all over the world and has a return of 100%?"
