Soroptimist is pleased to announce the fourth annual Live Your Dream Art Contest. This year’s contest invites boy and girl students, ages 4-18, to design their own logo for the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Campaign. The mission of the campaign is to inspire women and girls to live their dreams and encourage them to pass on their good fortune to others. The logo design must include the words “Live Your Dream” and should reflect the campaign’s mission.
The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Campaign and art contest underscore the many heroic and inspirational contributions of women. This contest is a fun and engaging way to get students to read a good book and become inspired by the women in it.
The art work will be judged in the following categories:
* Category 1: Ages 4-6
* Category 2: Ages 7-9
* Category 3: Ages 10-12
* Category 4: Ages 13-15
* Category 5: Ages 16-18
Rules
* Students must design a logo for the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Campaign that reflects its mission to inspire women and girls to live their dreams and encourage them to pass on their good fortune to others.
* Art must include the words “Live Your Dream.” Because the words are part of a logo, please leave them in English.
* Art can be created in any medium (pencil, paint, crayon, etc.). Students may also submit computer-generated artwork by using computer drawing or design software. All artwork must be original. The use of clip art is not permitted.
* Work should be no larger than 11” by 14”.
* Students must glue or staple the art contest entry form to the back of their artwork. All sections must be complete. Artwork that does not have an attached entry form will be disqualified.
Submission Guidelines
Schools or teachers must collect all artwork from students and send in one package to Soroptimist International of the Americas, 1709 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103, USA, Attn: LYD Art Contest. Electronic copies of work will not be accepted.
*Submissions become the property of Soroptimist and will not be returned. Soroptimist reserves the right to use submissions on its website and in its promotional materials.
Deadline
Entries must be received at Soroptimist no later than December 31, 2011. Entries received after this date will be disqualified.
Judging
Professional artists will judge the entries. Finalist entries will be posted at LiveYourDreamCampaign.org, where visitors can vote on their favorite design in each age category. Soroptimist will announce the winners on this website on March 8, 2012 (International Women’s Day). There will be one student winner in each category.
Prizes
Each student will receive $100 and the winner’s school will also receive $100. Soroptimist recommends that schools use their awards to purchase women’s history books for the school library, or fund an assembly about women’s history in honor of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. Although not a requirement, this will reinforce the goal of the art contest.
Spread the Word
Help spread the word about the Live Your Dream art contest! Encourage local schools to participate by sending them a letter and asking them to post a flyer about the contest. You can also help by sending a news release to local newspapers and media contacts.
